The INM@SKS community is proud to feature Tracey Boot, a distinguished actress, director, and mask maker with over 30 years of experience in the professional theatre world. Based in Chambéry, France, Tracey has been the Artistic Director of Compagnie Theatre Transformations since 1991, where she has written and directed more than 20 original creations.
Tracey’s expertise is rooted in world-class training, notably from the Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris, where she mastered mime, improvisation, movement analysis, and the neutral mask. This physical foundation is complemented by a BA Honours in Drama, (Theatre, Film, Radio and Television) from the University of Manchester, providing her with a deep academic background in dramaturgical semiology and drama history.
Tracey is a prolific creator who has handcrafted over 160 masks for professional stage productions and an additional 70 masks specifically for training environments. Her technical mastery focuses on paper mâché, creating a wide range of third, half, and full masks. Her dedication to the craft continues to evolve through research and development, including recent Fab Lab explorations in Chambéry to integrate modern technology with traditional mask-making.
Beyond the stage, Tracey is a dedicated professional trainer, leading workshops in mask play and fabrication. In 2015, she founded the Visu’elles Festival, a unique platform dedicated to the meeting of masks and associated arts, specifically highlighting female perspectives in the field.
As a core member of the International Network of Mask Specialists (INM@SKS), Tracey has been instrumental in fulfilling the network’s mission of bridging geographical distances through digital and real-world collaboration. She spearheaded the Erasmus+ Small-Scale Partnership that led to the creation of the INM@SKS digital platform in 2025.
Tracey remains a key figure in international exchange, participating in the IETM network and more recently the ASSITEJ network, leading residencies in countries like Slovakia, where she explores mask heritage, arts, and crafts. Whether performing as a bilingual actress in productions like Granny Smith or Juliet and her Romeo, or facilitating European partnerships, Tracey Boot continues to be a driving force in the global mask community.
